- Getting Started
- ---------------
- My goal is to get you playing Joyous Rebel as
- soon as possible. So just sit there, listen to me
- talk, and you will have a smile on your face soon
- enough. Thanks.
-
- After the intro and title screen the game opens
- with four options:
-
- New Character View Intro
- Journey Onward Credits
-
- The "New Character" option is what you want for
- your first time playing. It allows you to type in a
- name for your player and gets the maps and other data
- uncompressed and ready for play.
-
- The second option, "Journey Onward," will be
- used later when you want to continue where you last
- broke away from this game. Using this option, you
- will start where you were with all your items, as
- though you never left! Dejavu? Nope, just a fun
- game!
-
- "View Intro" shows you the awesome beginning, to
- be viewed again and again!
-
- "Credits" shows who worked on the game and what
- they did.
-
- Once you have created your character you are
- presented with the game screen. While in the game the
- ESC key will pull up a map of the world with an arrow
- pointing to where you are. It also has a quit button
- at the bottom, which means press 'Q' to quit the game
- from here.
-
- Now that you are looking at the main screen, you
- will notice that in the upper right corner there are
- four buttons. These are, in order:
-
- "Attack/Strut Mode",
- "Shoot",
- "Do It", and
- "Fiddle With Your Inventory".
-
- These are explained quickly and easily by explaining
- the game and it's playing method. What you accomplish in
- this game is smiting guys which makes them fall down. To
- do this you must first enter Attack Mode, by simply pressing
- the 'A' key. 'A' for 'A'ttack, see?
-
- To better accomplish making guys fall down, you can
- look for better weapons. Once you have a weapon, to ready
- it, simply press the 'F' key. 'F' for 'F'iddle with your
- inventory. This will give you an arrow in your inventory
- grid. To select something, move the arrow over it and press
- 'ENTER'. To unready it, move the arrow over it again and
- again press 'ENTER'. You will notice your resting character
- down in the lower right corner now has that item readied and
- has dropped any other item that might be in it's way. If he
- had to drop an item, don't worry, it's still in your inventory
- to be whipped out at anytime during the game.
-
- Your character in the action window should also have
- readied it. However, if you readied a weapon and your character
- is not carrying it, this is because you are still in Strut Mode.
- Press 'A' and you shift into Attack Mode. You pull your weapon
- and/or shield out and are ready to fight.
-
- To become a peaceful being and rest your arms from the load
- of carrying that big weapon around, press 'A' and you are in
- Strut Mode again. This mode is useful when you don't mean to
- fight people.
-
- Missile weapons and spells are accomplished a little
- differently. For them, if you are in Attack Mode then simply
- press 'S' and a direction, your ballistics will 'S'hoot in that
- direction. Ship cannons work this way also.
-
- Do it, do it, do it. Great dance song? Nope, it's the
- "let's accomplish what other games use up to a dozen keys to do
- all in one!" This is your super combo key! It does door opening,
- object pickup, dead guy removal, fallen tree sliding, and stair
- climbing all in one key.
-
- For all of the above steps, except stair and cave usage,
- just press 'D' for 'D'o It when next to the object you wish to
- manipulate and then press the arrow key that indicates the
- direction of the object you wish to manipulate.
-
- For caves and stairs, if you stand on the object and press
- 'D' you are now brought to the level above or below you as the
- case may be.

- The World
- ---------
- The world of Joyous Rebel is composed mainly of three large
- islands. The largest is where the king lives in the main castle.
- This island also houses the mage tower, the druid hut, and the
- farmer's fields. A small village is here with a guard tower and
- there is a large mountain from which mining is still active.
-
- The upper right corner island is the home of "crumble-ville",
- this is the old castle of the land.
-
- The lower right island is the valley island. It houses the
- school, a small village, and is the place you find yourself at in
- the begining of the game.
